Logistics network marketplace connecting carriers and shippers

Why logistics is still ready for the marketplace model

Capacity, visibility, and pricing fragmentation still favor marketplaces—now with AI for decision velocity, not just listings.

Original article: Forbes Technology Council — Why Logistics Might Be Ready For The Marketplace Model

This article expands on ideas I first published in Forbes Technology Council while leading a prior marketplace platform. The core thesis held; the execution layer moved faster than expected.

Logistics was marketplace-ready in 2022 because capacity is fragmented and trust is slow. That is still true. What changed is the control tower: AI can surface exceptions and re-route proposals faster—but only if event data from TMS, WMS, and carriers is clean.

Marketplace vs broker

Brokers optimize phone and email. Marketplaces optimize repeatable transactions with published rules. If your “marketplace” has no transparent pricing or SLA history, you are a digital broker—and vulnerable to agents that disintermediate relationships.
